Itinerary

This 8-day grand tour from Marrakech to Tangier crosses Morocco from south to north. First, you explore Marrakech and cross the High Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou and the Telouet kasbah. Then you follow the Valley of Roses and the Dades Gorges, ride a camel and sleep in the Sahara. Finally, you return north through Rissani, Midelt and Azrou to Fes, Chefchaouen and Tangier.

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

Your tour starts at Marrakech airport, where our driver welcomes you. Then we take you to your hotel, and you have free time to enjoy the city at night. Overnight: Marrakech.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Marrakech

Marrakech shows all the exotic culture and charm of Morocco. With one of our local guides, you visit the Koutoubia mosque, built in the 12th century. You also see the Majorelle Garden, full of cacti, palms and ferns, created by the painter Jacques Majorelle. After that, you discover the Saadian Tombs, a 16th-century burial site covered with mosaic tiles.

After lunch, you explore the fascinating souks, the star attraction of the city. For example, you can see the babouche (slipper) souk, the carpenters’ market, the spice souk and the leather souk. In the evening, Jemaa el Fna square fills with snake charmers, singers, acrobats, dancers and storytellers. Overnight: Marrakech.

Day 3: Marrakech – Telouet – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

Today the grand tour from Marrakech heads south. We leave the city at 8 am and drive through the Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. On the way, we stop for photos of the Berber villages, and you can take a short walk in one of them. Then we visit the 17th-century kasbah of Telouet.

Next, we visit Ait Ben Haddou, protected by UNESCO, and the Taourirt kasbah in Ouarzazate. Afterwards, we drive to Skoura and its 18th-century Kasbah Amridil. Later, we reach Kelaat M’Gouna and the Valley of Roses. Finally, we follow the Dades Valley, with its Berber villages and its strange rock formations called the monkey toes. Dinner and overnight in a local hotel in Boumalne Dades.

Day 4: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga, camel trek and desert camp

Today is the most epic day of the tour. After breakfast, we drive to the Todra Gorge, where you walk under cliffs 300 metres high. Then we continue to Merzouga via Tinejdad, for lunch, Erfoud and Rissani, through the oases of the Sahara.

On arrival, a nomad welcomes you with a glass of mint tea. Then you ride a camel, guided by a skilled cameleer, into the sea of dunes of Erg Chebbi. At the camp, you relax and watch the sunset over the golden dunes, one of the best sunsets in the world. Afterwards, you have dinner and spend the night in a tent or under the stars. On request, Berber musicians can play drums and dance around the campfire. In addition, our camp has western bathrooms and showers. Overnight: Merzouga luxury camp.

Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Midelt

Early in the morning, your camel guide wakes you up to watch the sunrise. Then you ride back to Merzouga for breakfast. Afterwards, we drive to Rissani and walk through its authentic market, with vegetables, spices and dates. There, you see hooded men and veiled women chatting between the stalls. Later, we follow the impressive Ziz Valley and stop to enjoy the canyon views. Finally, we arrive in Midelt for the night.

Day 6: Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

After breakfast, we travel to Fes via Azrou, a Berber village in the Middle Atlas. On the way, we stop to see the Barbary macaques in the famous cedar forest. Then we visit Ifrane, the little Swiss village of Morocco, where you can take photos or have a drink.

After lunch, you discover Fes el Bali, the oldest part of the city and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its alleys hide great monuments, such as Bab Boujloud, the main gate of the medina. The medina is also a huge souk of local crafts: leather, metalwork and colourful pottery. Later, we visit the new city for a drink. Overnight: Fes.

Day 7: Fes – Chefchaouen

After breakfast, our driver takes you to Chefchaouen, the blue city, one of the loveliest towns in Morocco. It is small and quiet, so it is easy to explore. First, you visit the kasbah, a restored fortress with a lovely garden, a small museum and an art gallery. Then you can wander freely, because every wall of the town is an attraction. Overnight: Chefchaouen.

Day 8: Chefchaouen – Tangier, the end of the grand tour from Marrakech

After breakfast, we drive you to Tangier airport or to any other place you choose. Finally, our service ends here, and we hope you have enjoyed your days in Morocco.
