4 Days from Marrakech to Fes: Atlas and Desert

This tour of 4 days, Marrakech to Fes, crosses the Atlas Mountains and the desert in 3 nights. You see the kasbahs of the south, the Dades and Todra gorges and the Erg Chebbi dunes. Then you return north through the Ziz Valley and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas.

Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades Gorges

We pick you up at your accommodation and drive over the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m). On the way, you have time for photos of the High Atlas and its Berber villages. Our next stop is Ait Ben Haddou, where we have lunch and explore its exotic kasbah. Then we continue to Ouarzazate and stop at the Taourirt kasbah, built by the Glaoui family.

After that, we visit Skoura and its mesmerising palm grove. Later, we drive on to Boumalne Dades through Kelaat M’Gouna, the Valley of Roses, and the valley of a thousand kasbahs. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in the Dades Gorges.

Days 2 and 3: Boumalne Dades – Tinghir – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga

After breakfast, we leave for Tinghir and the Todra Gorges, with a panoramic stop over the river. Then we follow the river road to the gorges, stop for lunch and walk among the high rock walls. Afterwards, we head to Merzouga through Tinejdad and Erfoud, where you can visit a fossil marble workshop.

Next, we reach your hotel at the foot of the orange dunes of Erg Chebbi. From there, a camel ride takes you to the desert camp in the middle of the dunes. Finally, you have dinner under the stars and sleep in a Berber nomad tent.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Ziz Gorges – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

This morning, we first visit Rissani, with the zawiya of Moulay Ali Sharif and the local souk, where donkeys gather in old fondouks. Then we continue via Erfoud and stop to admire the Aoufous oasis. Later, we pass Errachidia and stop for photos at the Hassan Addakhil dam. Along the Ziz river, you see old ksour, the Ziz Gorges and the Legionnaires’ tunnel.

After that, we cross the Tizi n’Talghemt pass (1,907 m) to Midelt for lunch, with views of the snowy Jebel Ayachi. From Midelt, we drive to Azrou to see the 800-year-old Gouraud cedar and the monkeys of the forest. Then we visit Ifrane, the Moroccan Switzerland, with its stone lion and Al Akhawayn University. Finally, we drive via Imouzzer Kandar to Fes, where your 4 days from Marrakech to Fes come to an end.
